Technical Development Groups

 

TOADFISH


Criteria for entering into Toadfish:

  • Enter the water safely
  • Move forward for a distance of 5 meters with aids
  • Move backwards for a distance of 5 meters with aids
  • Move sideways for a distance of 5 meters with aids
  • Scoop the water and wash the face
  • Be at ease with water showered from overhead
  • Move into a stretched floating position using aids, equipment or support Regain an upright position from on the back with support
  • Push and glide in a horizontal position to or from a wall
  • Take part in a teacher lead partner orientated game
  • Exit the water safely

Aim: 

To develop further water confidence to travel 10 meters on the front or back with or without aids, equipment or support.
 To complete Toadfish, swimmers will be able to complete in comfort the following skills (with or without aids, equipment or support):

  • Jump in from poolside safely
  • Blow bubbles a minimum of 3 times rhythmically with nose and mouth submerged
  • Regain an upright position from the back without support
  • Regain an upright position from the front without support
  • Push from wall and glide on the back
  • Push from wall and glide on the front, head down
  • Travel on the front for 10 meters, aids or equipment may be used
  • Travel on the back for 10 meters, aids or equipment may be used
  • Perform a rotation from the front to back to gain an upright position
  • Perform a rotation from the back to the front to gain an upright position

 

BLENNIESTop


Aim:

To develop confidence in travelling through the water without support for 20 meters on the front and back.
To complete Blennies, swimmers will be able to complete in comfort the following skills (without support):

  • Jump in from the poolside and submerge
  • Sink, push away from the wall on side and maintain a streamlined position
  • Push and glide on the front with arms extended and log roll onto the back
  • Travel on the front, tuck to rotate around the horizontal axis to return on the back
  • Fully submerge to pick up an object
  • Travel 20 meters on the back
  • Travel 20 meters on the front

 

FROGSTop


Aim: 

To develop stroke technique on the front and back working towards swimming 40 meters to the Club Expected Standards on two strokes.
To complete Frogs, swimmers will be able to achieve in comfort the following skills:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of buoyancy
  • Perform a tuck float for 5 seconds
  • Perform a sequence of changing shapes (min 3) while floating on the surface
  • Push and glide from the wall in streamline position moving forward 2 meters
  • Kick 40 meters Backstroke
  • Kick 40 meters Backstroke
  • Perform on the back a head first sculling action for 5 meters in a horizontal position
  • Travel on back and roll in one continuous movement onto front
  • Travel on front and roll in one continuous movement onto back
  • Swim 20 meters, Front crawl to Club Expected Standards
  • Swim 20 meters Backstroke to Club Expected Standards
  • Swim 60 meters, choice of stroke to Club Expected Standards
  • Perform a sitting dive

 

PENGUINSTop


Aim: 

To develop technique of Front crawl, Backstroke and Breaststroke working towards swimming 80 meters to Club Expected Standards on two strokes and 20 meters to Club Expected Standards in one stroke.

To complete Penguin, swimmers will be able to achieve in comfort, the following skills:

  • Perform a horizontal stationary scull on the back
  • Perform a feet first sculling action for 5 meters whilst horizontal on the back
  • Perform a sculling sequence with a partner for 30-45 seconds to include a rotation
  • Sink, push off on side from the wall streamline position
  • Sink, push off on side from the wall forward roll
  • Tread water for 30 seconds
  • Perform 3 different shaped jumps into deep water
  • Swim 80 meters Backstroke to Club Expected Standards
  • Swim 80 meters Front crawl to Club Expected Standards
  • Kick 20 meters Breaststroke on the front
  • Kick 20 meters Breaststroke on the back
  • Swim 20 meters Breaststroke to Club Expected Standards
  • Swim 100 meters, choice of stroke to Club Expected Standards
  • Perform a kneeling dive

 

DUCKSTop


Aim: 

To develop technique of Front crawl, Backstroke, Breaststroke and Butterfly and working towards swimming 80 metres to Club Expected Standards on two strokes and 40 metes in one stroke.
To complete Ducks, swimmers will be able to achieve in comfort, the following skills:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of preparation for exercise
  • Sink, push off on side from the wall - streamline, glide, kick and rotate into Backstroke
  • Sink, push off on side from the wall - streamline, glide, kick and rotate into Front crawl
  • Swim Front crawl to Club Expected Standards to include at least six rhythmical breaths
  • Swim Breaststroke to Club Expected Standards to include at least six rhythmical breaths
  • Swim 80 meters Front crawl to Club Expected Standards
  • Swim 80 meters Backstroke to Club Expected Standards
  • Swim 40 meters Breaststroke to Club Expected Standards
  • Kick 20 meters Butterfly on both side and front
  • Swim 200 meters, choice of stroke to Club Expected Standards
  • Perform a surface dive
  • Perform the start of a front crawl turn - swim, forward roll and turn
  • Exit the water without using the steps

 

TURTLESTop


Aim: 

To develop technique of Front Crawl, Backstroke, Breaststroke and Butterfly, working towards swimming longer distances to Club Expected Standards and achieving stipulation times on three strokes.
To move on from Turtles, swimmers will be able to achieve in comfort, the following skills:

  • 20m Front Crawl : 00.24.00
  • 20m Backstroke : 00.26.00
  • 20m Breaststroke : 00.26.00

 

SEALSTop


Aim: 

To develop stroke technique on Front crawl, Backstroke, Breaststroke and Butterfly, working towards swimming 40 meters to Club Expected Standards in one stroke, 200 meters toClub Expected Standards in two stroke and 50 meters to Club Expected Standards in one stroke.
To move on from Seals, swimmers will be able to achieve in comfort, the following skills:

  • Swim 400 meters Front crawl to Club Expected Standards
  • Swim 200 meters Backstroke to Club Expected Standards
  • Swim 200 meters Breaststroke to Club Expected Standards
  • Swim 50 meters Butterfly to Club Expected Standards
  • Perform a movement sequence of 1 minute duration, in a group of 3 or more, incorporating a number of the following skills: Sculling - head first, feet first; rotation - forward/backward somersault, log roll; floating - star on the front/back, tuck float, create own: Eggbeater - moving, lifting one or both arms out of the water, link skills with strokes and sculls
  • From starting blocks perform Breaststroke start to Club Expected Standards
  • Swim 40 meters to the following set stipulation times
  • 40m Front Crawl : 00.44.00
  • 40m Backstroke : 00.50.00
  • 40m Breaststroke : 00.52.00
  • Swim 20 m to the following stipulation times
    • 20m Butterfly : 00.24.00
  • Tread water using egg beater action for 30 seconds

Aim: 

To develop stroke technique on Front crawl, Backstroke, Breaststroke and Butterfly, working towards swimming 800 meters to Club Expected Standards in one stroke, 400 meters toClub Expected Standards in two stroke and 200 meters to Club Expected Standards in one stroke and 50 meters to Club Expected Standards in one stroke .
To move on from Marlins, swimmers will be able to achieve in comfort, the following skills:
